While I think that music should always be creatively structured,
compositionally coherent and even intricate I've never assumed those expectations translated to a need to be pleasant. The bias
toward slow, perceptible melodies, instrumental softness and filler-esque percussive repetition is one that ignores that rhythm is a product of sound and pattern recognition. Its about the way your sounds are used, not their level of clarity, accessibility and conformity to what soothes your ears. The "do I like this" consideration is ultimately secondary to whether and how it works.
I point this out because that's the question you need to ask yourself to see the appeal of the next mixtape. Somewhere between the gaudy loudness of Rhythmic Noise, the structural/instrumental versatility of IDM and an ambient that's internalized Industrial's melodically schizophrenic lessons is something of a musical sweet spot that captures not only music as rhythm, but music as effect. It's evocative not just for what it requires to like, but for the mood that attentiveness to contrasts between conventionally defined "beauty" and harshness can produce. But only in concert.
By themselves, Power Noise and Industrial are weakened by an excessive attentiveness to their gimmicks. It's so concerned with being hard and loud that it's ignored any requirement to be interesting. It's a genre that works better as a supplement and an influence than as a pursued standard, which is why my preferred forms of the music are informed by the lessons of other genres. It's music that revels in dichotomy, but maintains an icy caliginosity that's thematically integral to almost every song. Enjoy.
Or not.
